Thanksgiving in August.
Quite perfect, really.

There’s just something about that once-a-year plate (or in this case: twice-a-year, following some covid induced changes) that puts you in a reflective state of mind.

August 1 was their wedding date! Then it changed. Changed again. Then it reverted back to the original.
Sydney + Michael planned for a bigger wedding. Made contingencies for something much smaller. Ended up somewhere in the middle.
It was on. Then it was off. Back on & it went off without any [more] hitches.

And there, despite the setbacks, are those beaming smiles.
I mean, do you see Sydney? So radiant she glows. And Michael, he’s putting out some seriously happy rays himself.

There are those personal touches, still making the day feel one-of-a-kind special.
Scroll and you’ll see the make-up rituals in a childhood home, the Wicked soundtrack playing in the background. A beautiful church for the ceremony that’s seen more than 1 generation married. The personalized jewelry and assorted DIY skills far beyond comprehension.

And then there’s the stuffing and the gravy: an impromptu Thanksgiving dinner in August.
Reminding us all as our knives and forks clink in unison that it is a gift to be present. To have love. To celebrate love. To have our health and to celebrate that too. To have Sydneys and Michaels in this world that show us how lovely life can be when you’ve got the right person beside you.
What a pleasure to have gotten to witness and record such an inspiring day, pandemic and all.
